West Site taxi busted with marijuana

The West Site taxi in which the narcotics were found

Two motorcycle patrol officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) yesterday busted a West Site taxi along with its driver with three pounds of marijuana on the western side of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

According to police, at about 10:20 hours, a constable and a corporal attached to the Brickdam Police Station were on mobile patrol in Agricola when they went to the Demerara Harbour Bridge and intercepted motorcar HD 1997 which was being driven by a 33-year-old male of Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD) who was proceeding west on the bridge.

The three parcels of cannabis found in the vehicle

The driver was then instructed to stop at the other end of the bridge and he complied. The police constable approached the car and told the driver of the information received and as such requested to search the vehicle. During the search three bulky transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the car’s trunk.

As a result of the discovery, the suspect was told of the offence, arrested, cautioned, and escorted to the La Grange Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 1,361 grammes.

The driver is currently in police custody pending charges.
