Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers on Thursday conducted an operation in the vicinity of Lombard Street, Charlestown, Georgetown where they intercepted a male carrying a backpack. A subsequent search of the backpack led to the discovery of a parcel containing suspected cannabis.
Akeem Archer, a 27-year-old of the Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 5 lbs (2.33 kg) with a street value of approximately $400,000.
Investigations are ongoing.
