The driver of a hire car is in custody as police continue their investigations into a fatal accident which occurred at about 22:30 hrs on Saturday on the Stanleytown Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
A police press release said that the incident involved pedestrian Kelston Ferreira (now deceased) of Lot 68 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara and a hire car (HD 2943) owned by Shivanand Ramkissoon of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and driven by 33-year-old Kristoff Pollydore of Belle West Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara.
Enquiries disclosed, the police said, that hire car HD 2943 was proceeding east along the northern side of the road when the left front wheel ran over Ferreira who was lying on the northern side of the road, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, the release said, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor. Ferreira’s body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
