As of last weekend those vendors who were displaced by the inferno that destroyed the entire Parika Market Complex in February, have taken up their temporary spots along the road which was recently rehabilitated for them.
According to the Chairman of Region Three, Inshan Ayube, the placement of the vendors came as a result of a meeting he held on Saturday with the vendors and other officials.
He disclosed that so far, 15 vendors have been provided temporary spots at the road which runs alongside the destroyed market, while they are still working to rehabilitate another section in Parika to place another set of vendors who sell mainly food.
The vendors will continue to ply their trade at the temporary spots until the construction of the market complex is completed.
Last week Monday, the chairman had also told this newspaper that the company which was constructing the second phase of the market when it was destroyed, Panko Steel Fabrication and Construction Company, has since committed to rebuilding the market within a three or four-month timeframe.
On February 10 at about 3:14 pm a massive fire erupted destroying millions in stock, such as clothing, jewellery, electronics, food items and much more, which were being sold by over a dozen vendors both in the market complex and along the roadside.
A report from the Guyana Fire Service had concluded that the fire was a result of welding sparks coming into contact with combustible materials.
