An East Canje Berbice hire car driver who was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a child committed in 2020 was sentenced to life imprisonment on all three counts yesterday at the High Court in Berbice.
Basheer Mohamed also known as ‘Sugar’, was found guilty at the High Court in Berbice after a trial before Justice Navindra Singh where after summing up, a jury returned with a unanimous verdict of guilty on all three counts in January.
It is alleged that between August 1, 2020, and October 16, 2020, he engaged in sexual activity with the eleven-year-old. The other two counts were reportedly committed between October 16, 2020, and December 6, 2020, and December 7, 2020.
Mohamed returned to court yesterday where Justice Singh sentenced him to life imprisonment on all three counts.
