Two Corentyne men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged with the attempted murder of Naresh Ramangal who remains in critical condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital following a fight over a missing pig on Sunday.
Rayan Mootoo also known as ‘Royo’, 27, a labourer of Lot 9 Section B, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, and Halley Morgan, 25, a labourer of Lot 86 Williamsburg Village, Corentyne yesterday appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Peter Hugh.
The men were charged with attempting to murder Ramangal, 28, a cane harvester of Lot 17 D Williamsburg Village, Corentyne on Sunday March 19, 2023.
They were not required to plead to the charge and were remanded to prison.
They will return to court on April 12 for report.
Stabroek News was told, that Ramangal and Morgan, who are friends, had an argument over a missing pig. Ramangal then reportedly became upset and dealt Morgan a lash to the right side of his forehead resulting in him sustaining an injury.
As a result, a scuffle then ensued between the two. Mootoo, who was standing nearby whipped out a knife from his waist and allegedly stabbed Ramangal in his abdomen.
Both men were rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital. Ramangal was eventually transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit where he is in a critical condition.
