Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers yesterday intercepted a male carrying a haversack on the Zeeburg Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
A subsequent search of the haversack was conducted in the presence of the individual, which revealed five brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis, CANU said.
Andy Jainandan, 30 years, of Parika, EBE was cautioned, arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed, and it was discovered to be imported cannabis known as “poppy” with a total weight of approximately 12 lbs (5.366 kgs) and a street value of approximately $1.8m.
Investigations are ongoing.
