A West Canefield, East Canje Berbice man was today remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of Mohamed Imran Ali whose lifeless body was discovered two Sundays ago.
Trevor Rajmangal appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Sherdel Marcus where it was stated that between Saturday 18 March and Sunday 19 March, 2023 at West Canefield, East Canje Berbice he murdered Ali.
Rajmangal, a construction worker, was represented by attorney at law, Chandra Sohan.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. He will return to court on April 21st.
Ali, also known as ‘Mice’, 36, unemployed of Lot 5 Reliance Abandon, East Canje Berbice was found around 6 am at Bissessar Street, West Canefield with an injury to his right eye on the morning of Sunday March 19.
A post-mortem examination gave his cause of death as shock with cerebral haemorrhage due to a fractured skull.
His sister, Fazila Ali, 34, a housewife of Lot 15 Bissessar Street, West Canefield had said that she last saw the deceased about 8 pm on the Saturday walking through the said street drinking alcohol
She told Stabroek News that she was in her bed the following day when she received news that her brother’s body covered in mud was on the parapet.
Ali was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
