One of the best bowling performances in a Georgetown Cricket Association-organized tournament by Ashmead Nedd catapulted the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to an innings and 193-run win over Everest Cricket Club yesterday.
Playing at the Queenstown-based DCC ground in the GISE/Star Rentals/Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament, DCC duly enforced the follow-on and bundled out Everest for 108 in 26.1 overs in their second innings. On the previous day, DCC piled up 381 for nine on the heels of a Christopher Barnwell ton. Everest were then bowled out for 80 with Nedd taking 8-33.
Everest’s second innings followed a similar pattern to the first as they lost Denesh Mangal and Joseph Perry in the fourth over to Nedd. The former West Indies youth left-arm spinner then returned in his next over dismiss Anthony Sanichar for 10 and talisman batsman, Chandrapaul Hemraj for a seven-ball duck.
Ushardeva Balgobin was the only batsman to show fight, hitting three sixes and nine fours during his 44-ball 64 before being trapped leg before wicket to Nedd. No other batsman reached double figures with Nedd forcing Feyaad Lekhraj out of his crease to be stumped. Nedd eventually ended with 8-38 from 13 overs.
Ricardo Percival picked up the other wickets, taking 2-20 from 19 balls with the wickets of Varun Mangal (07) and Nityanand Mathura (06).
