The Georgetown Cricket Association hosted an under-17 50-over trial match yesterday at the Queen’s College ground with three batsmen scoring half-centuries.
Divided into two sides, GCA (2) won the toss and opted to bat first and posted 179 all out in 36.4 of their 40 overs. GCA (1) coasted to 180 for three in 34 overs.
Shamar Apple starred with bat in hand for GCA (2) hitting 55 from 53 balls. He stroked two sixes and five fours while sharing in a 68-run partnership with Shiloh Adams who made 50 from 54 balls. His innings was decorated with three sixes and three fours with both batsmen retiring.
Ronaldo Singh was the only other batsman to reach double figures in this innings, scoring 11 from 32 balls before he was bowled by Jonathan Gulab.
The bowling was sloppy, giving away 39 extras. Jaden Dowlin picked up 2-10 while Riyad Latif, Mohamed Ally, Shawn Thompson, Jaydon Douglas and Gulab picked up one wicket apiece.
In the chase, Gabriel Rookhum top scored with 56 from 34 balls. He struck 11 boundaries, four of which cleared the ropes cleanly for six. Rookhum put on 75 runs for the opening partnership with Joshua Persaud who made 25 from 74 balls.
Latif chipped in with 22 while Dowlin made 21 not out. Julian Craig made 12 not out and Jude Budram scored 10. GCA (2) had similar bowling troubles, gifting 34 extras. John Persaud, Huzhayfahi Ali and Kaylon Callender picked up one wicket each.
