The Golden Jaguars ended their Concacaf Nations League campaign with a scoreless draw against Montserrat last evening at the Wildey Turf Stadium, Wildey, Barbados.
The match was inconsequential for the Guyanese, who had already sealed their berth to the Gold Cup Preliminary Round, owing to a 2-1 win over
Bermuda in their previous encounter, and a Montserrat loss to Haiti.
Jalen Jones, Emery Welshman, and Liam Gordon were relegated to the bench as Guyana’s starting XI comprised Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Jonathan
Grant, Jeremy Garrett, Kadell Daniel, Liam Gordon, Leo Lovell, Colin
Nelson, Elliot Bonds, Bayli Spencer-Adams, Omari Glasgow, and Kelsey Benjamin.
It was only the second meeting of the two teams, after the previous encounter ended 2-1 in favour of the Guyanese on June 4th, 2022.
In terms of the statistics, Guyana recorded six shots compared to Montserrat’s two attempts. They also registered 55% possesion, whilst completing 234 passes out of 267. Montserrat completed 170 out of 197 attempted passes.
Due to the result, Guyana end their campaign on 10 points to finish in the second position to group winner and undefeated unit Haiti, who finished on 16 points. Montserrat and Bermuda ended the tournament on four points, but the former finished in the cellar position owing to an inferior goal differential.
Haiti defeated Bermuda 3-1 in their final fixture. The official draw for the Gold Cup Preliminary Round will occur on April 14th and will feature 12 teams.
Suriname, Martinique, Curacao, and Grenada will represent League A as the four third place finishers, whilst Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and French Guiana will emanate from League B.
Similarly, League C will feature participation from Sint Maarten, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Puerto Rico.
