Each March, the Unicomer Group observes Volunteer Week where staff have the opportunity to come together and work on a community project and this year over 500 meals were handed out.
This year, departments and store branches across Guyana came together to volunteer for the project dubbed “Feeding Hope” to support the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger and the Guyana-led CARICOM initiative of “25 by 25”, a release yesterday from Unicomer said.
Through the project, Unicomer Guyana Ltd provided breakfast to persons in need within the vicinity of several of their store locations, including the Mega Store at Main Street, the Regent Street store, Linden and New Amsterdam.
This initiative was completed during March 15th – 17th, 2023. Hearty, nutritious and warm meals were handed out to 510 adults and children by Unicomer Guyana Ltd staff volunteers.
In addition to providing meals to persons in need, Unicomer Guyana Ltd also used to the opportunity to provide education to staff on the topic of food security, and the importance of the local agriculture sector in providing sustainable income and a sustainable food source, the release said.
