A garbage truck belonging to Cevons Waste Management burst into flames on Sheriff Street, Georgetown yesterday morning most likely as a result of combustible material that was among the garbage. This, the company said, brings to the fore the issue of garbage sorting and recycling.
Cevons Chief Executive Officer, Morse Archer, told Stabroek News yesterday that three men were on board at the time of the fire and all escaped unscathed. A public-spirited citizen while driving along the road noticed smoke emanating from the truck and alerted the men on board. He stated that they are not 100 per cent sure what caused the fire but based on the information received, it started at the back of the truck where garbage is held. Archer noted that combustible material might have been amidst regular garbage and ignited the fire. The truck was damaged by the fire and a replacement was made available to manage the regular schedule.
