Port Mourant defeated Rose Hall Town by 104 runs at the Port Mourant Community Development Centre Ground yesterday as the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Government of Guyana (GOG) Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Under-19 Boys Inter-Club Super-50 tournament got underway. The home team racked up 187 all out from their 50 overs with National youth opener Rampertab Ramnauth top scoring with 43 and Salim Khan supporting with 42.
Johnathan Rampersaud grabbed three wickets and Nyron Hicks two.
A devastating spell of off-spin bowling from Navin Boodwah, who bamboozled the opposition with figures of 7-17, almost single-handedly accounted for Rose Hall being dismissed for 83 runs.
At the Tuschen Community Centre Ground, East Bank Essequibo beat Bartica by 157 runs.
East Bank Essequibo batting first, posted 227 in 29.1 overs. Thaddeus Lovell stroked 53 and Sarwan Bishram 47 while opener Shaahid Vieira made 32 and Mohesh Sookdeo 22.
Fast-bowler Delroy Brown claimed 3-40 from 10 overs while mystery spinner George Chanderbhan had the excellent figures of 4-53. Bartica were routed for 70 with Myhiem Khan 4-10 and Aryan Persaud 4-15 the principal wicket takers. At the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground, Wakenaam defeated Leguan by eight wickets.
Leguan were knocked over for a measly 56 with Johnathan Singh’s 16 the top score.
Davendra Ansraj, 4-20 and Shahid Mohamed, 4-23, wrecked the batting in a clinical effort by Wakenaam who then made light work of the chase, ending on 58-2 thanks mainly to Gladwin Henry (15) and Mohandas Surujpaul (14).
At the Imam Bacchus Ground, North Essequibo lost to Pomeroon by 40 runs.
Pomeroon mustered 105 all out in 26. 2 overs batting first, with just a lower-order contribution of 20 not out from Andre Fraser. Bowling for North Essequibo Quency Sampson took 4-22 and Romal Hubbard 3-8.
North Essequibo in reply were dismissed for 65 runs in just 18.1 overs. Fraser snapped up 4-10 while Brian Narine and Adrey Brown who chipped in with 2-13 and 2-10, respectively.
At the Bush Lot ground, Bush Lot United beat Cotton Tree Die Hard by seven wickets.
Cotton Tree Die Hard, batting first, managed just 118 all out in 43.5 overs with Rashad Gaffur being run out for the top score of 32. Tulsiram Ramcharan, 2-24, Lachman Dhanna, 3-11 and Budram Lakeram, 2-8 were the main wicket takers.
In reply, the home team easily reached 119-3 in 31 overs with Ramcharan showing his class with the bat, leading his team to victory with 47 not out.
Opener Justin Doobay provided solid support early on with 21.
At the No.3 Ground, Radha Krishna beat Scottsburg United by 21 runs.
The home team posted a total of 153 from 29 overs with Tumesh Hemraj making 28 and Neeraj Singh and Yogeshwar Khemraj scoring 22 each.
Scottsburg’s bowling was led by fast-bowler Joel Dhanraj (5-30) and spinner Dharmendra Persaud (3-35).
Scottsburg United in reply, were dismissed for 132 in 30 overs. Trevon Doobay took 5-26 and Niraj Singh 3-22 while
Dhanraj (29), Persaud (16) and Jerimiah Joseph (14) were the principal scorers.
Today Pomeroon will oppose South Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus Ground, while Wakenaam will play East Bank Essequibo at the Tuschen Community Centre Ground.
Tomorrow, the top two teams in the Essequibo County stage will meet at the Imam Bacchus ground to decide on the Essequibo County Champions for the GCB/GOG/MCYS Under-19 boys Inter-Club tournament.
To complete the first round of matches in the New Amsterdam/Canje location, East Bank Blazers will oppose Rose Hall Canje at the East Bank Blazers ground while Tucber Park faces Guymine today.
Matches in Demerara will begin on Tuesday.
