A 17-year-old boy of Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD) was charged last Friday with the murder of Shimron Benjamin and remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre.
According to a police source, ranks of the Port Kaituma Police Station, under the command of Assistant Superintendent Kooldeep arrested the 17-year-old suspect. He was charged last Friday with murder and remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre until May 4.
A police report stated that the 17-year-old, allegedly murdered Benjamin on March 28. Enquiries revealed that around 00:30 hours last Tuesday, Benjamin was drinking high wine along with the 17-year-old suspect, and both of them appeared to have been intoxicated. At around 01:00 hours, last Tuesday, a 64-year-old farmer of S1A Junction, Four-Mile Village, saw Benjamin lying motionless in the grass with blood on his head about 30 feet from his home.
The farmer immediately informed Royston Bumbury, the 57-year-old toshao of Four-Mile Village, NWD, who attended the scene with his ATV and transported the victim to the Port Kaituma District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim’s body was examined, and it was observed that his face had been bashed in.
Police found a rock with a reddish substance suspected to be blood, at the scene.
