GTT Inc yesterday said that a permanent and secure replacement for a deficient manhole cover on Sheriff Street will be in place by April 15,2023.
GTT in a statement said that it was aware of the deficient manhole cover on Sheriff Street in the vicinity of Duncan Street and took steps to reduce the risk of impact to road users. It said that this involved placing barriers and a temporary covering around the affected area until a viable replacement could be sourced.
Unfortunately, it said that the barriers were vandalized and removed. The company said that it then took more robust measures to secure the area to the state it is in presently.
GTT says it remains committed to continued cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works towards the infrastructural development and safety of the country.
On Tuesday on its Facebook page, the Ministry of Public Works called on GTT to address this matter urgently and expeditiously, as the safety of road users is of paramount importance.
