Priyanna Ramdhani and Akili Haynes were the outstanding players when the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) GUMDAC-sponsored tournament ended Friday at the National Gymnasium.
The two national players won two doubles titles each including the mixed doubles title which they won with each other.
The tournament attracted players from the Nursery Badminton Academy, the Yonex Badminton Club and Berbice.
In the mixed doubles final, Haynes/Ramdhani defeated Tyrese Jeffrey/Ambika Ramraj, 21-8, 21-10.
In the women’s doubles final, Ramdhani/Ambika Ramraj defeated Anna Perreira/Shivannie Persaud 21-8, 21-6.
In the men’s doubles finals, Haynes/Tyrese Jeffrey defeated Marlon Chung/WenYuan Chen, 19-21, 21-17, 21-16.
The boys’ U-19 final produced an upset as Berbice’s Xavio Alexander bested the number one ranked player in the draw Joanathan Debidin 21-17, 21-19.
The U-19 girl’s final was won by Mishka Beharry who defeated Malia Haley 21-7, 21-4.

Vice-President Ayanna Watson thanked the Sponsor Darrell Carpenay of GUMDAC for sponsoring the tournament for the last nine years. She also thanked the National Sports Commission for sponsoring the bus that brought the team to and from Berbice every day, Christina Kumar for providing the refreshments daily and the parents for their support.
Meanwhile Ramdhani and Haynes are attending a badminton camp hosted by Badminton PanAm and PanAm Sports.
Following the camp they will participate in the PanAm individual championships in Kingston Jamaica.
