Karasabai farmer dies after falling off bridge

Police are investigating the incident that claimed the life of a 57-year-old Karasabai farmer on Sunday night, after he lost control of his motorcycle, collided with the rail of the Shiwan Bridge located in Region Nine, and fell off the bridge.

Dead is Mikey Francisco of Karasabai Village.

According to a police report, at about 20:50 hours on Sunday, Francisco was returning home from his farm on his Brazilian registered motorcycle, NAR 8584.

When in the vicinity of Shiwan Access Road, South Pakaraimas District, Region Nine, approaching the Shiwan bridge, he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the rail of the bridge. As a result of the collision, Francisco and his motorcycle fell off the bridge and landed in the creek on some rocks with the motorcycle ending on top of the injured farmer, pinning him down. The police noted that the motorcycle did not have a headlamp at the time

On Monday at about 13:45 hours, the farmer was discovered in a motionless state with the motorcycle on both of his legs by relatives who went in search of him.

Francisco was picked up and taken to the Karasabai District Hospital, where he was examined and immediately referred to the Lethem Regional Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival when he got there.

The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination as further investigations continue.
