A 28-year-old carpenter of Lusignan Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara was stabbed to death by a vagrant Monday morning during a confrontation. The suspect has since been arrested by police.
Dead is Abdool Javid Razack of Lot 72 Lusignan Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
The incident occurred a few houses away from Razack’s home at about 11:25 hours and the suspect has been identified as Karamchan Mukutnauth, a vagrant, who reportedly, would usually wander around the village.
Eyewitnesses related that Razack was walking along the street when Mukutnauth began speaking loudly, he then took out a knife and stabbed Razack in the chest. Mukutnauth then dropped the knife and fled while Razack fell to the ground. He however managed to get up and ran a fair distance close to his home but collapsed again. Public-spirited citizens rushed to his aid and an ambulance was contacted and transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mukutnauth was arrested by police ranks a few minutes after the incident occurred.
Razack’s brother told Stabroek News that the vagrant would always carry a knife while traversing the street. He noted that several reports were made to the police about his behaviour but nothing was done.
