A 33-year-old electrician of Graham Street, Better Hope North, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday busted with 2,000 grams of cannabis at the Berbice River Bridge, Access Road.
According to a police press release, a party of police ranks acting on information received, went to Berbice Bridge, Access Road at about 05:30 hours on Thursday where they intercepted 33-year-old Dominic Bernard Jones. The man at the time had a black haversack in his possession.
The ranks identified themselves as police officers and requested to search the haversack, to which Jones agreed.
Upon inspection, two bulky parcels wrapped in plastic, both containing seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis were discovered.
Jones was subsequently arrested and taken to Central Police Station along with the narcotics. The suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 2,000 grams.
The suspect, who is expected to be charged, is currently in custody pending further investigation.
