Firefighters from the Alberttown Fire Station were on Sunday called to an apartment at Lot 33 Norton Street, Wortmanville, where a partially decomposed body was found. The body was that of Albert Callender, a 71-year-old.
According to a police report, Callender’s neighbour, who resides in the upper flat of the building, said that she last saw Callender alive on April 19th. On April 22, the neighbour said a pungent smell began emanating from Callender’s apartment and she called the police.
Police ranks along with firefighters from the Alberttown Fire Service visited the home on Sunday at about 4 pm and opened the door to the apartment where the body of the man was observed lying face-up on a bed, in a partially decomposed state.
Another neighbour, who wish not to be named, told Stabroek News yesterday that Callendar resided alone in the apartment and had not been seen for a few days. Callender was a security guard.
The body of the deceased was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for a post-mortem. No foul play was suspected.
