Cardel Hunte and Gavin Mendonca will represent Guyana at the American Music Abroad Academy 2023, the US Embassy announced on Saturday.
The academy’s mission is to bridge socioeconomic borders, promote social inclusion, and bring musical cultures together, the release said. A diverse group of 27 young performing artists from the Western Hemisphere will participate, it added.
Hunte and Mendonca will participate in intensive creative and musical workshops with AMA alumni artist instructors and receive mentoring in the music business, production, and innovation/entrepreneurial skills, the release said.
Hunte is a Guyanese gospel singer/songwriter and recording artist. Mendonca is a Guyanese folk musician, guitar and bass player, songwriter and singer, best known for his creole rock.
