The Pepsi/Mike Parris U-16 Tournament continues today at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym.
In trying to keep with its mandate of staging the event twice per month, the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will stage the second fixture from noon following last week’s postponement.
The tournament which has birthed several elite boxing prospects, is one of the events that keep the competitive juices of the teen boxers flowing.
At the last event, Guyana’s Tiquan Sampson won the coveted Best Boxer award for the event which was staged at the National Gymnasium.
Sampson out boxed Trinidadian, Prince Charles of Trinidad and Tobago in the feature international bout of the evening.
The orthodox Sampson won via unanimous decision (3-0) against his 54-57kg rival.
In excess of 40 boxers are expected to be in the ring, battling for trophies and medals today.
