A blistering century from Zadeen La Rose inspired Rose Hall Canje to a 57-run win over Tucber Park and a spot in the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/ Ali Bakery U-17 tournament.
At the Rose Hall Canje ground, the hosts won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 232 for seven from their allotted 50 overs. With rain revising Tucber Park’s target to 126 in 27 overs, the visitors reached 68 for seven by the time their overs ended. La Rose carved eight sixes and four boundaries during his 96-ball 101 not out. After losing his opening partner, Avishkar Persaud for a 10-ball duck, La Rose added 76 with Sanjay Algoo (28). Cameos came from Adrian Hetmyer (18) and Romario Ramdeholl (14). However, it was 51 extras that allowed Rose Hall Canje to pass the 200-run mark.
Ramdeholl returned to take 3-5 from three overs. Extras also had the main contribution with 29 while Gavin Kisten was the only batsman to reach double figures with 12 from 29 balls.
In the other matches, Albion defeated Edinburgh by nine wickets at the Jai Hind ground. Afraz Budhoo’s 7-6 bundled out Edinburgh for 50 while Albion duly raced to 51 for one in 5.4 overs with Tameshwar Mangal top scoring with 26 not out.
Cotton Tree defeated Achievers by nine wickets as well. Achievers mustered 61 with Arif Khan taking 4-22 and Arif Bacchus bagging 2-13. Cotton Tree reached 62-1 in 6.1 overs with Rashad Gaffur making 45 not out.
