Guyanese all-rounder Richie Looknauth inspired Marchin Patriots to a 12-run win over Caldrac Club and in the process winning the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board 50-over Premier 2 South tournament on Sunday.
At Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, Patriots took first strike, posting 229 for seven from their allotted overs before limiting Caldrac to 217 all out in 49.2 overs.
Looknauth, who secured the Man-of-the Final award, said it was a special moment for him to assist his team in getting to the championship.
Looknauth top scored for Patriots with a vital 78. His 121-ball innings featured six fours and one six, setting up a platform for Kiedel Glasgow to come late in the innings and strike 49 not out. Glasgow faced 41 balls with his innings highlighted by three sixes and two fours. Cameos also came from Hakeem Mitchell (28) and Dominic Choy (21).
Caldrac’s bowling was led by Jevon George who returned 3-74 while Negan Carthy took 2-32. Albert Gopie and Nickyle Jahim picked up one wicket each.
In Caldrac’s chase, Nathanel McDavid looked set to lead his side over the line as he worked his way to 90 from 108 balls. He clubbed seven fours and two sixes before departing. David Williams Jnr., tried to continue the momentum but was dismissed for 35 from 40 balls. Apart from Avinash Mahabirsingh (25) and Qwinci Bable (24), no other batsman got settled.
Stephawn Solomon took 2-18 while Ricky Jaipaul bagged 2-27 and Looknauth returned with his off-spin to take 2-48.
