Popular entertainer and educator Kirwyn Mars aka ‘Sir Mars’ was stabbed some eight times before having his chest crushed with his own vehicle and subsequently dying on the scene, according to a post-mortem examination report.
The police have also identified the suspect in Mars’ murder, who was arrested on Tuesday, as Brian Richards, 24, of John Fernandes Squatting area.
The police said that success came from CCTV footage in which the two were spotted entering the Green City Bar at D’Urban Street and Vlissengen Road around 17:38 hrs and leaving at 20:59 on May 7 in the grey Mitsubishi RVR vehicle, PZZ-6438, registered to Mars. It was pointed out that from the footage Mars was the driver of the vehicle during that period.
Later that same night, Mars was killed at Planta-tion Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Both the teaching and theatre fraternities have been plunged into mourning over Mars’ death. A teacher for 31 years, Mars was deputy head of the New Central High at the time of his death.
