Guyana’s Braithwaite, Douglas WIFBSC Champs

Guyanese marksman Lennox Braithwaite retained the West Indies Individual shooting title while US-based compatriot Sigmund Douglas won the ‘O’ Class honours on the final day of Individual competition at the West Indies Fullbore Rifle Shooting Championships being held at the Crabbs Rifle and Pistol Ranges in Antigua/Barbuda.

However, the grand aggregate title went to Canadian Geoff Wood who amassed 467 points with 41 Vs after nine rounds of shooting at 300, 500 and 600 yards over three days.

Braithwaite went into the final day three points behind Wood and scored 152 points with 12 Vs at 300, 500 and 600 yards to finish with an overall aggregate of 641 with 35 Vs. Antigua/Barbuda’s Anderson Perry placed third over overall with 449.27 and runner up in the regional competition. Canadian Bruce MacDonald  was fourth with 448.21, Antiguan Zuber Patel fifth with 444.20, Jason Wood of Barbados 6th  with 443.28, Canada’s Ric Melling 7th  with 438.18, Antiguan Olson Daniel also 438 with 17 V in 8th place , Guyana’s captain Dylan Fields 9th with 436.18 and Jamaican Nicola Guy round off the top ten with 435.19.

Douglas shot 430.18 to capture the ‘O’ Class title finishing ahead of Desroy Maile of Antigua/Barbuda with 422.19 while third place went to Dennis Lee of Jamaica with 412.18.

The scores for the other Guyanese shooters were Sherwin Felicien 418.15, (22nd overall), Ryan Sampson Vice-Captain Leo Romalho and Peter Persaud placed 27th, 28th and 29th respectively. John Fraser placed 38th and Ransford Goodluck 40th.

The focus will now be on the team match to be shot on Saturday over 300, 500 and 600 yards for the regional short range title. The competing teams are defending champions Jamaica, Guyana, Antigua/Barbuda and Barbados.
