Man jailed for gas station larceny

Samlall Budhoo yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Leron Daly to answer to the charge of simple larceny.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on May 14, at Vlissengen Road and Eping Avenue, Bel Air Park, Georgetown, the defendant stole a DeWalt drill valued $70,000, property of Steven Chung.

According to the facts of the matter, the defendant and the virtual complainant are known to each other but are not on speaking terms. On Sunday May 14, at about 13:15 hours, Chung was in the service bay of the RUBIS gas station located at Vlissengen Road and Eping Avenue and was using using his DeWalt drill to build a speaker box. At around 13:20 hours, he left the drill on the speaker box and went to pick up a worker. He returned at approximately 14:30 hours, and discovered the drill missing. A check of the gas station CCTV showed the accused stealing the drill. The matter was reported to Kitty Police Station and the accused was later arrested and subsequently charged with the offence.

Budhoo was sentenced to prison for nine months.
