Castrol Strikers defeated newcomer Alphas 3-0 when the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) Senior Men’s League continued on Wednesday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The start of the first stanza set the tone for the contest, as Castrol Strikers raced to an initial 3-1 advantage. However, Alphas reduced the deficit at 8-7 following a 6-5 blitz.
Nevertheless, Castrol Strikers reasserted their dominance, outscoring Alphas 8-5 to lead 16-12. Another 5-2 run from Castrol Strikers extended their lead at 21-14, before the 4-4 split ended the contest at 25-18.
A 4-4 split to start the second set was indicative of a competitive stanza. However, Castrol romped ahead at 13-9 following a 9-5 run. Alphas responded in clinical fashion, seizing the lead at 16-15 following
Nonetheless, the experience of the Castrol Strikers outfit proved to be the difference as they retook the lead at 22-17 following another impressive 7-1 exchange. The contest was then sealed at 25-19.
The third set was reminiscent of the first stanza, as Castrol Strikers romped to an 8-3 advantage. This was followed by a 9-7 run as Castrol Strikers increased their lead at 17-10. The contest was then sealed at 25-14 after another lopsided 8-4 exchange.
The event is slated to continue today at the same venue with Alphas battling Young Achievers from 20:00hrs.
