A Lost Girl Speaks
Do not consider that I lived in vain
consider I lived a while in wonder
and will now forever live for you.
I knew the morning light on the long savannahs
ancestral mountains rising in the dawn
streams that run in red-stone beds
gleaming sunsets in the shallow falls
sweet winds that cool the golden sun
the night’s vast heaven necklaced with stars.
Family and friends I loved, that love never ends;
years filled with joy and hope are never lost.
When the flames came they did not consume my soul.
I had memories of the good seasons of my home,
the planned and fruitful nature of our lives –
that has not gone and I am part of it.
Consider me beloved music of this land;
play it and forever then remember.
