Two-time defending champions Fruta Conquerors bested Ann’s Grove 2-1 to win their first match in the KFC Elite League on Sunday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Following a scoreless first half, Conquerors seized the lead in the 76th minute when Neron Barrow scored.
Racing onto a through pass inside the right of the penalty area, Brrow uncorked a right-footed strike into the lower left corner of the net.
However, Ann’s Grove responded immediately equalizing four minutes later via Shemar Beckles, who volleyed a left-footed effort from inside the centre of the box, which slipped through the grasp of the goalkeeper and settled into the back of the net.
Samuel Garnett duly fashioned the go-ahead winner in the 86th minute, poking the ball past the advancing goalkeeper into the lower right corner following a one-on-one situation after racing onto a through pass.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force maintained their perfect start with a 7-0 drubbing of Victoria Kings. Nicholas McArthur orchestrated the rout with a helmet trick in the 20th, 33rd, 39th and 41st minute while Ronaldo Dover, Keswin Fraser, and Ravi Coates scored in the 18th, 57th, and 84th minute respectively.
