The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) yesterday said that temporary repairs have been completed to the breached St. Cuthbert’s Mission main road, which leads into the community from the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
It noted that the temporary works were done in collaboration with the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Four as MoPW works towards a more permanent solution to this issue.
According to the release, earlier yesterday, teams worked on the three breached sections of the road, to ensure the community was not completely cut off from its regions Four and Ten linkage, and to minimise further inconvenience to persons using the roadway. In the meantime, the MoPW reported that work is progressing on the design for the rehabilitation of those critical sections of the main road. Simultaneously, an Engineer’s Estimate is also being prepared for this upcoming project.
“The Ministry is thankful that no one was injured or lives lost during this ordeal, and urges persons traversing the area to do so with much care and caution, especially during the current rainy season.”
Only recently, 18 community participation contracts totalling almost $90 million were signed for the commencement of infrastructural works in the community.
President Irfaan Ali had committed to fixing the community roads during a visit in March to the community. Residents were assured that the main road issue would be addressed, and that shoddy work and delays will not be tolerated, the release added.
