A Ruby Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) man died yesterday after his car turned over and landed in a trench on the Ruby Access Road.
The dead man has been identified as 45-year-old Ravindra Ali. He was the driver and owner of the vehicle, PHH 7065, at the time of the accident.
The police in a statement said that the car was proceeding south along Ruby Access Road, EBE, at a fast rate when the driver lost control of it. As a result, the car turned over and landed in a trench situated on the eastern side of the road.
Public-spirited citizens who rushed to the scene aided in removing the partially submerged car from the trench. Ali was found in an unconscious condition in the back seat of the car. First responders removed him from the vehicle and rushed him to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at Ezekiel’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy. Several persons were questioned at the scene and in the area but no useful information has been received, police said.
