I read Prof. Compton Bourne’s erudite essay on economic transformation in Guyana with much respect. With the same respect, please permit me to note that three crucial dimensions need to be added to this analysis: protection of the environment, equity in the allocation of resources, and efficiency in government. All three aspects, environment, equity and efficiency will determine the quality of development in Guyana.
