Chanderpaul Persaud, Harilall Ramdan and Jagishwar Ghani are all now awaiting sentencing after a jury earlier this week convicted them of the 2017 stabbing death of Uitspa labourer Dhanpaul Dookie.
Following deliberations, the 12-member jury returned its unanimous verdict, finding the jointly-charged trio guilty of murdering Dookie during a robbery between July 24th and July 26th, 2017 at Uitspa Village, Linden Highway.
They had contested the charge, pleading not guilty.
Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry who presided over the trial has deferred sentencing to June 27th, to first hear from a probation report and other social-impact statements.
The lifeless body of 51-year-old Dookie called “Paulie,” a labourer/vendor, was discovered with multiple stab wounds at his Uitspa Village, Demerara River home.
Chanderpaul was represented by defence attorney Dexter Smartt; while Ramdan and Ghani were represented by attorney Kiswana Jefford.
The trial was heard at the High Court in Demerara.
