A quantity of suspected narcotics along with cash was discovered by police during a cordon and search exercise in Buxton.
A release from the Guyana Police Force Corporate Communications Unit reported that on Friday, police ranks carried out a cordon and search at a popular liming spot on Spliff Street, Buxton Middlewalk, East Coast Demerara.
Upon seeing the police, the release said, several men who were there fled in various directions leaving behind three haversacks. When inspected they revealed 72 transparent zip bags containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis; one compressed transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis; two transparent zip bags containing a hard whitish substance suspected to be cocaine; one compressed transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis; and a quantity of cash suspected to be proceeds from the sale of the aforementioned narcotics.
The suspected cannabis when weighed amounted to 677 grammes and the suspected cocaine amounted to 5 grammes, while the cash amounted to $6,640.
Investigations are ongoing.
