Unbeaten teams Western Tigers and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) maintained their record in the KFC Elite League Football Championship following victories on Saturday evening at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Western Tigers downed Victoria Kings 3-1. Randolph Wagner opened the scoring for Western Tigers in the fourth minute, latching onto a left sided pass from Andrew Murray inside the penalty box before finishing his effort beyond the goalkeeper into the left corner.
The East Coast Demerara outfit would equalize in the form of Travis Eversley in the 23rd minute, slotting home unchallenged inside the penalty area after an initial cross evaded the entire backline and fell into his path.
The score remained unchanged heading into the halftime period. However two unanswered goals in the second stanza sealed the result for the West Ruimveldt outfit. Hubert Pedro crafted the go-ahead conversion in the 67th minute, stabbing the ball from the top of the 18 yard box down the centre of the net.
The result was then sealed in the 87th minute as LaVaughan Enniss found the back of the net, directing his powerful header across the body of the goalkeeper and into the right corner after latching onto a right sided corner kick.
Meanwhile, GPF brutalized Den Amstel 9-0. Nicholas MacArthur recorded a helmet trick in the 38th, 40th, 43rd, and 54th minute, whilst Dorwin George crafted a hat-trick in the 61st, 67th, and 85th minute. Adding goals in the 64th and 90th minute were Keswin Fraser and Adrian Aaron respectively.
The event continues at the same venue tomorrow.
