Beginning this weekend, the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF will host its flagship National Road Race Championships.
According to reports, the road races for juniors, females and juveniles will take centre stage on Saturday from 09:00hrs at the National Park while the road race for the Masters will be held a day later from CARIFESTA Avenue to Half Way tree and back (61.5 miles).
That race is scheduled to pedal off at 07:00hrs.
On June 24, the Time-Trials for all categories will commence from 08:00hrs at the KK Gas Station, Mahaica Circuit. A day later, the road race for the Elite men will ride off from 07:30hrs in the hills of Linden.
There is optimism that two of Guyana’s elite wheelsmen currently campaigning with distinction on the US circuit, Jamal and Briton John (no relation) will return home for the championships.
The pair will be riders to watch in the peloton while Alex Leung (junior), Sidwell Sandy (juvenile), Clavecia Spencer (female) and Robin Persaud (Masters) will be among the favourites for their respective categories.
There was no National Cycling Championships held last year, however,
Romello Crawford was declared the 2021 National Road Race champion (elite) after a controversial finish with Briton and Paul DeNobrega which led to the intervention of cycling’s world governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
