A mother of nine yesterday tearfully accepted the keys to a brand new house, which was handed by Men on Mission (MoM) at Better Success in Region Two.
Funding to build and fully furnish the two-bedroom house and stock it with ration for a month was supplied by businessman Parmeshwar Jagmohan of International Import and Supplies situated at 15 Garnett Street, Campbellville. It was constructed by N and S Contracting and Supply service. In addition, a monetary donation was given to the family.
Rukmin Chowtie and her family, inclusive of her husband Tackoor, had returned from Venezuela and they were depending on public assistance she was receiving for her daughter Andrea Chowtie, who has a disability.
She thanked the businessman and his team for providing her with a fully-furnished house with all amenities.
Manager of Projects Ravi Budram, who spoke on behalf of Jagmohan, told the gathering that the businessman endorsed the MoM initiative and was committed to supporting it. He revealed that Jagmohan had funded the building and furnishing of a house in December for a woman at Lima, and has committed to funding another house for a family by the end of 2023.
Budram said that the company was committed to giving back to communities and funding the project was a way to honour its corporate social responsibility.
Regional Vice Chairman and MoM Chair in the region Humace Oodit said that when he saw the family’s living conditions he knew something had to be done. He said that MoM in Region Two was happy to partner with Jagmohan in improving the livelihood of families.
He said the gift to the family was truly an act of kindness and selfless service and called on the family to take good care of the house.
Meanwhile, 40 hampers and monetary donations were also handed out to some fathers in Region Two, who were thankful and appreciative.
MoM was launched in 2022 by President Irfaan Ali who had said that the 1,000 men programme will bring together men across Guyana.
The initiative is led by the head of state and comprises several officers from the Guyana Defence Force, the Guyana Police Force and religious leaders among other reputable stakeholders.
