Imprisoned Venezuelan woman to be charged with nine more counts of human trafficking

Forty-one-year-old Mayelin Cordova, a  Venezuelan national and businesswoman of Byderabo Road, Bartica, Region #7, who is presently serving a six-month prison sentence for operating a brothel, is to be charged by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) with nine  counts of Trafficking In Persons (TIP).

A release yesterday from the GPF said that Cordova between 15th March, 2023 and 30th April, 2023 trafficked nine Venezuelan females from Venezuela to Guyana and exploited them between Crusher Hill and Barakat Backdam, Cuyuni, Mazaruni River.

The victims reported the matter to the GPF and members of the TIP Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters conducted an investigation.

Based on the investigation, legal advice was given by the Director of Public Prosecutions for Cordova to be charged with nine counts of trafficking.
