Two Guyana Police Force (GPF) officers yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to face ten counts of larceny and fraud.
They have been identified as 45-year-old Felicia Lewis, of Lot 115 D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown, and 30-year-old Kelroy Dorris, of Lot 59 Green Field Village, West Coast Berbice.
The charges against Dorris state that between December 01, 2022 and January 31, 2023, at the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, while being employed as a police officer, he stole $5,000, property of the GPF to repay Travis Alexander; $10,000 to repay Reyon Hutson; $10,000 to repay Lindon Hutson.
With intent to defraud, he is further charged with forging the signature of Reyon Hutson on a cheque amounting to $20,000. He is also charged with forging the signature of Steve DaSilva on a cheque to the value of $20,000.
Lewis is facing similar charges pertaining to the period December 01, 2022 and January 31, 2023.
The charges against Lewis state that while being employed as a police officer, she stole $10,000, property of the GPF, to repay Adams and $10,000 to repay Lindon Hutson. She was also charged with forging the signature of Steve DaSilva on a cheque for $20,000 and the signature of Aquacy Harry on a cheque for $20,000.
Both of the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges that were read to them
The prosecutor did not object to bail but requested that the defendants lodge their travel documents and report to the police station once a month until the completion of the matter.
The magistrate granted Lewis $60,000 bail whereas Dorris was granted bail in the sum of $140,000.
The defendants are expected to report to the police station every first Friday of each month commencing July 07, until the completion of the matter.
They are expected to make their next court appearance on July 14, 2023 for statements.
