Dear Editor,
Permit me space to address a rather pressing issue that was seemingly swept under the carpet by the authorities and Minister of the Local Government. I am aware that my story was just one among many that graced the pages of your newspaper over the past two years about the inappropriate behaviour of a particular manager to female staff at the Local Government Commission and the many calls for Nigel Dharamlall to intervene. Yet nothing was done.
There has since been many questions internally, as I reflect on these very serious allegations against the Minister, and the parallel of the person within the Commission that he overlooks. Editor, these allegations are damning and needs to be addressed now. Further, I wish to ask both the Cabinet members and Opposition to put whatever political egos they carry aside and work together towards the protection of those vulnerable, be it in the remote villages or busy workspaces.
As I conclude, there is one question I’d like to ask everyone who comes into contact with predators: would you feel comfortable trusting such men/women around your children? I think not.
Sincerely,
(Name and Address Withheld)
