Minister of Foreign Affairs and Inter-national Cooperation, Hugh Todd on Wednesday met with Margarette May Macaulay, President of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and other members of the IACHR Board of Directors on the sidelines of the Fifty-Third Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).
A release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during the meeting, Todd underscored the Government of Guyana’s policies for the promotion of human rights and reiterated Guyana’s commitment to supporting the Commission in the execution of its mandate.
He said that Guyana’s commitment to the promotion of human rights is evidenced in its nomination of Guyanese national Dr. Arif Bulkan, who is currently vying for a seat on the IACHR Commission at the elections to be held in the coming days.
Macaulay and the other Board of Directors applauded Guyana for the strides made over the years with its legislative policies, which are aligned with the principles of the Commission, the release said.
