Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) is celebrating its milestone of reaching 150,000 households in Guyana with its fibre service.
This achievement, according to the company, represents a 75 per cent reach across Guyana, something no other company in Guyana has done so far.
GTT observed the celebration yesterday with a media event and a concert. The guest of honour was Prime Minister Mark Phillips.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister applauded GTT for achieving this milestone and noted that it works hand in hand with government’s plans to have a fully connected nation.
He noted that the effort to push this agenda must be collective, as so to get the full benefit of information and communications technology.
“This level of connectivity calls for a collective effort from the government, private sector actors, telecommunication providers, and other key stakeholders to innovate to ensure that ICTs are harnessed for the benefit of all, enabling us to thrive in a more connected and technologically advanced world.”
This effort he said opined, should be driven by the private sector mostly with their innovations.
“The private sector has a critical role in driving innovation and technological advancements,” the PM was quoted as saying.
