A pupil of Mibicuri Primary School, 10-year-old Tajmattie Bissoon was reported missing by her family on Friday morning.
Bissoon resided with her family at Lot 5 Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, and was last seen by her brother who dropped her off at school on Friday morning. A family member said that she was reported missing around 8:30 am by teachers at the school who said that Bissoon was last seen going into a vehicle which then drove off. The family member opined that it could have been a relative who took her and the police are currently trying to locate the person.
Bissoon’s sister, Tejwattie Rooplall, told the Sunday Stabroek yesterday that after her mother got the news from the school that Bissoon was missing, she went to the school but the teachers there could not give an account of what happened. All her mother was told by the teachers at the school was that, “she was seen jumping into a vehicle and gone.” The mother along with other family members subsequently reported Bissoon’s disappearance to the Mibicuri Police Station around 9:30am that Friday.
Rooplall told this newspaper that the child’s father came from Suriname and on Wednesday took her mother to the Welfare Officer claiming custody of Bissoon. Rooplall related that the welfare officer didn’t give him the child but instead told him he has to go through the court to determine custody.
Region Six Commander, Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, yesterday confirmed that the matter is under investigation by police.
The sister is calling on anyone who may have any information on the whereabouts of Bissoon to contact her on cellphone number 674-5141.
