Guyana’s Shemar Britton is through to the round of 16 of the men’s singles event at the ongoing Central American and Caribbean games in El Salvador.
He will play the Dominican Republic’s Abit Tejada for a place in the last eight.
Yesterday, Britton dispatched Haiti’s Olivier Guerrier 11-7, 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 in their round of 32 encounter.
The other Guyanese players in singles action yesterday were eliminated with Jonathan Van Lange going down to Daniel Gonzalez 11-13, 6-11, 3-11 and 5-11 in the round of 32.
Chelsea Edghill was beaten 4-1 by Mabelyn Enriquez 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-13 and 6-11 in a round of 32 contest while Priscilla Greaves lost 0-4 to Clio V Barcenas 8-11, 3-11, 3-11 and 5-11 at the same stage as Edghill.
However the Guyanese doubles players are still in the competition with Edghill and Natalie Cummings down to play Trinidadians Rheann Chung and Imani Edwards-Taylor today in the round of 16 while Britton and Franklin will play Barbadians Tyrese Knights and Trevor Farley in another round of 16 encounter.
In mixed doubles action Franklin and Cummings defeated Trinidad’s Aaron Wilson and Chloe Fraser 3-1 while Britton and Edghill defeated Jose You and Rebecca Ayestas 3-0.
However the pairs were eliminated in the next round with Franklin and Cummings losing to Heber Moscoso and Lucia Cordero of CCS 1-3 and Britton and Edghill going down 0-3 to Jorge Campos and Daniela Fonseca of Cuba.
