Team Guyana’s campaign in the discipline of boxing at the ongoing Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games ended Sunday evening following Emmanuel Pompey’s loss on the scorecards.
In his debut at the El Salvador-held Games, Pompey lost his opening 92kg bout 0-5 to Mexican, Carlos Rodriguez.
Pompey’s loss in the quarterfinal match came on the heels of the nation’s other combatants at the 24th edition of the event, Desmond Amsterdam and Joel Williamson also losing their opening fights.
On Thursday, Amsterdam failed to progress past the round-of-16 after the referee stopped the contest (RSC) at the 1:57 mark of the third and final round against Hector Aguirre of Mexico.
Amsterdam’s defeat in the 80kg contest came earlier in the evening prior to Williamson losing his 63.5 kg opening bout versus Jesus Cova of Venezuela.
Williamson lost 5-0 on the scorecards in the round of 32 matchup.
