Twenty-one-year-old Annick Hossanah, of Lot 1314 Diamond/Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and twenty-six-year old Jamine Goddard, of Lot 5 Water Street, Bagotstown, EBD appeared virtually yesterday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh to answer to the offence of simple larceny.
It is alleged that on 20th June, at Skeldon, Corentyne, Berbice, the defendants stole diamonds, property of Gabriel Manichand.
Goddard reportedly swallowed some of the stolen diamonds. He was later transported to a hospital where he discharged the stones. Hossanah reportedly sold his share of the diamonds.
Both the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge that was laid against them and bail was granted in the sum of $300,000 each with the condition that they report to the Police Station every Friday.
They are expected to make their next court appearance on 3rd August for statements.
