Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum this afternoon told Stabroek News that the complainant in the rape allegation against Local Government Minister Nigel Dharamlall has given a `no further action statement’ to investigators.
Contacted by Stabroek News over reports that the complainant had asked for the matter to be withdrawn, Blanhum said “At this time, I am only able to confirm that the alleged victim has given a ‘no further action statement’ to investigators in the presence of one of her parents and a representative from the Childcare Agency. The file is currently being prepared to be sent to the DPP for further legal advice”.
This development comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had returned the file to the police for further investigations. These investigations presumably required further interrogation of the complainant.
Questions had been raised about the circumstances the complainant has been kept under and whether she had access to her own legal counsel.
