The Lady Jaguars will not compete at the impending Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Girl’s U14 Challenge Series which is penciled for Antigua and Barbuda from August 18th-27th.
This was confirmed following the official release96 of the tournament fixtures by CFU on Monday. Guyana was absent from the list of 20 participants. Efforts to contact the GFF General Secretary Ian Alves for a comment proved futile. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time.
“The tournament will see the twenty teams divided into two tiers (Tier I & II) with 14 national teams from around the Caribbean competing in Tier II while six (6) teams will battle in Tier I for the coveted Challenge Series trophy”, the release stated.
Group A of Tier-1 consists of Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, whilst group B comprises Aruba, Turks and Caicos Islands and Cayman Islands.
On the other hand, Tier 2 features Anguilla, Dominica, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US Virgin Islands and Grenada in group A, whilst Bermuda, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and Bonaire make up group B. Group C contains Curacao, Guadeloupe, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and Martinique.
CFU introduced the Challenge Series in 2018, starting with the boys’ tournament.
